EquipSolutions, based in Chicago, are Pi’s exclusive partner for the sales of CRIUS® in North America’s Industrial Market.

Recently, Pi’s Managing Director Mike Riding was invited to visit EquipSolutions to present the results of a current project between the two companies.

Tailored CRIUS® instrument controller training

EquipSolutions Timeline feat. Pi

During his visit, Mike provided extra training, specifically on being able to customise each CRIUS® instrument controller to meet the exact needs of Equip’s customers and providing bespoke manuals for the CRIUS® controllers.

Anthony Glitto, EquipSolutions’ Director of their Distribution division said:

“One of the attractions of the CRIUS® to us is that it is totally customisable for every one of our customers. Having the capability in house to do this customisation will certainly add value for our customers. Having the manual bespoke to each instrument means that our customers won’t receive a massive manual full of pages and pages of information that doesn’t relate to what they’ve bought. Having the bespoke manual means that they get the highest quality information relating to their instrument specifically.”

Reflecting on his visit to EquipSolutions, Mike Riding said:

“Equip are an extremely important partner to Pi, they are wholly committed to working with Pi in order to add value to their customers’ operations in North America using the CRIUS® platform. It was lovely to see that Pi stood out on their company timeline that is there for all to see in their extremely impressive facility in Chicago. Equip has great people, doing a great job and already the work put in by both partners is beginning to pay off with great reviews coming back from the first installations.”

The future looks bright in the North American Industrial Market, with Pi and EquipSolutions working together seamlessly to support their customers.

Pi and Hazco supply products across the Middle East

Burj KhalifaIn April, Pi’s head office contact for the Middle East, Julius Guth, visited Dubai, alongside Hazco’s Muhammed Aqeel.

Julius and Muhammed met with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) who provide drinking water for all of Dubai.

Their first system trial monitored the chlorine dioxide levels in Dubai’s drinking water, which included using:

Based on the success of the trial, DEWA recently ordered ten DioSense chlorine dioxide systems.

At the meeting, DEWA discussed the technical specifications required for their future systems. In order to offer the best possible service to DEWA, Hazco are in the process of setting up a local office in Dubai to maximise efficiency and provide local support.

Nevertheless, the week wasn’t all work! Julius and Muhammed had the opportunity to visit the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. Up on the 125th floor, the pair had a stunning view over the city of Dubai, an experience they are unlikely to forget.

When commenting about his trip, Julius said:

“It was a pleasure to spend the week with Muhammed. The meetings with DEWA will pave the way for our growing presence in the Middle East. We have been long-standing partners with Hazco, so it’s always good to see them and provide assistance where we can.”

In January 2017, Pi launched Version 3 of their instrument controllers and demand has continued to increase, allowing them to deliver accuracy, cost effectiveness and robust solutions to many distributors and customers across the world.

The CRONOS® is the little brother of the CRIUS® and is perfect for those wanting a no frills, lower cost controller. With the capability to control up to two sensors, optional comms packages and optional PID control are also available.

Combined with Pi’s range of sensors, including:

Process Instruments (Pi) have always championed the development of employees, allowing them to grow alongside the business and develop their skill set through internal and external training.

Pi Apprentice Joins the Technical Support Team

Process Instruments - BenPi’s latest employee to undertake such a development is apprentice Ben Turner.

Ben started working for Pi in October 2017 as an Electrical Engineering Apprentice in the Manufacturing department. Here, Ben was tasked with building Pi’s CRONOS® and CRIUS® instrument controllers with a selection of sensors measuring parameters, such as streaming current, chlorine dioxide, ORP and dissolved oxygen.

Now in the second year of his apprenticeship at Nelson and Colne College, Ben has been asked to join Pi’s Technical Support team, providing immediate assistance to customers, distributors and the sales team. As part of his new role, Ben has obtained his Safety Passport and is now able to visit sites to see the analysers and controllers he used to build, in operation.

Regarding his new role, Ben said:

“I was both surprised and excited to be considered for a role in the Technical Support team. Since the move, Pi has provided me with fantastic support, especially Wes and Jonathan who I now work alongside. This is a great opportunity for me to develop my current skills and gain new ones, and I now hope to progress to the Higher National Certificate to develop my ability to solve electrical engineering problems.”

Ben hopes to follow in the footsteps of his mentor and Applications Engineer, Wesley Ashworth, who also started his Pi career as an apprentice in October 2011. Like Ben, Wes initially worked in Manufacturing before progressing to the Technical Support team and completing his Higher National Certificate.

Here at Pi, we currently have seven apprentices who are studying in a range of areas, from electronics to accountancy. In the past, three employees have completed their apprenticeships and the Higher National Certificate. As well as attending training events, some of these employees have since provided training to customers worldwide.

Process Instruments (Pi) have been supporters of the Living Wage Foundation since 2016, but have now been officially accredited as a Living Wage Employer by the Living Wage Foundation.

Pi are proud to pay a living wage

Pi’s Living Wage commitment means that qualifying employees at Pi will receive a minimum hourly rate of £9; an amount significantly higher than the UK government minimum for over 25s, which currently stands at £7.83 per hour.

In Pi’s region of the UK, 23% of all jobs (634,000 jobs) pay less than the real Living Wage. The real Living Wage provides a voluntary benchmark for employers who wish to ensure their staff earn a wage they can live on, not just the government minimum. Since 2011, the Living Wage movement has delivered a pay rise to over 160,000 people.

When commenting on Pi’s Living Wage commitment, Managing Director Mike Riding said:

“We’re very proud to be accredited as an official Living Wage employer and have always been keen to ensure that our team earn enough to live on. Our company values include fairness, respect and integrity and we believe that all our team deserve fair pay for their hard work.”

Furthermore Tess Lanning, Director of the Living Wage Foundation, commented:

“We’re delighted that Process Instruments has joined the movement of over 4,700 responsible employers across the UK who voluntarily commit to go further than the government minimum to make sure all their staff earn enough to live on. They join thousands of small businesses, as well as household names such as IKEA, Heathrow Airport, Chelsea F.C., Everton F.C. and many more. These businesses recognise that paying the real Living Wage is the mark of a responsible employer.”

Julius Pi and Craig AllPronix at Anfield
Julius Guth from Pi (left) and Craig Bradshaw from AllPronix at Anfield

In February 2019, Pi welcomed Craig Bradshaw from AllPronix for a week of advanced product training at the head office in Burnley, UK. Craig is the product specialist for Pi equipment at AllPronix and is responsible for sales across South Africa.

The training week was very hands-on, providing Craig with practical experience in setting up the analysers and trying out different features. The training involved in-depth tutorials about the CRONOS® and CRIUS® analysers including communications, PID settings and remote access as well as sensor calibration procedures for the pHSense pH meter, ConductiSense conductivity meter, TurbSense® turbidity meter, SoliSense® suspended solids monitor and more.

Pi’s head office contact for South Africa, Julius Guth, spent the week training Craig with assistance from Wesley Ashworth and Ben Turner from Pi’s Technical Support team. But the week wasn’t all work; Craig also had plenty of fun trying his hand at Clay Pigeon Shooting at The Coniston Hotel and fulfilling his boyhood dream of watching Liverpool Football Club play at Anfield.

Julius said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Craig to our office and we had a great time together. Craig learnt a lot from the training, which will be invaluable when he is working with his customers back in South Africa. We have been partners with AllPronix for over 4 years now, so it’s always good to have a visit from them and provide assistance wherever we can.”
